Production of refractories and refractory materials started with the emergence of pottery and metal production in ancient Iran and entered a new stage in its present form in the country with the construction of Amin Abad Refractory Factory in 1318.

This industry expanded rapidly with the growth of refractory consumption in the cement industry and power plants, and the turning point of increasing production and technological transformation in it began in 1352 with the construction of a refractory iron smelting plant with a capacity of about 25 thousand tons along with the production of steel in the country. This process continues until today with entering the field of non-ferrous metal production, glass and ceramic industry, oil and gas, and petrochemical industry.

Refractory materials are considered as a vital bottleneck in the production cycle (especially in parent industries), so that all industries that deal with high temperature and baking or melting processes consume refractory materials. Therefore, refractory materials as one of the main subgroups of ceramics are of high importance for parent industries.

The production of refractory products is of special importance due to the wide application and strong dependence of various industries on them, especially in the infrastructure industries such as steel, non-ferrous metals, cement, aluminum, glass, ceramics, refineries and petrochemical industries, so that the growth and development Each of the above industries is somehow related to the development of refractory materials.
